These tasks represent 11. 8% of the companyââ¬â¢s worldwide creation and incomes (AGA Sustainability Report, 2011: 22) Located in the Ashanti and Western Regions of Ghana, Iduapriem and Obuasi were the fundamental focuses of the merger between AngloGold Limited of South Africa and Ashanti Goldfields Limited of Ghana to shape the present organization, AngloGold Ashanti, in 2004.SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY AngloGold Ashanti gives broad, openly accessible data about what the organization calls its ââ¬Å"sustainabilityâ⬠technique and projects. The companyââ¬â¢s agreeable stance is additionally obvious in its detailed dependence on the GRI Guidelines, the standards of the UN Global Compact (http://www. unglobalcompact. organization/), and the Sustainable Development Framework of the business body, the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) http://www. icmm. com/our-work/reasonable improvement structure). While AGA doesn't explicitly make reference to the Ghana Business Code, acknowledgment of the standards of the UN Global Compact adds up to acknowledgment of the Ghana Code which is about a verbatim version of the Global Compact. AngloGold Ashanti in its Sustainability Report 2011 communicates a crucial: To make an incentive for our investors, our representatives and our business and social accomplices through securely and capably investigating, mining and showcasing our products. Our essential center is gold and we will seek after worth making openings in different minerals where we can use our current resources, abilities and experience to impr ove the conveyance of significant worth. This statement of purpose gives early knowledge that the companyââ¬â¢s CSR procedure is to a great extent driven by an instrumental inspiration (Maignan and Ralston, 2002: 498) to accomplish execution destinations â⬠making esteem. A perusing of the companyââ¬â¢s values proclamation improves this impression of a firm centered around CSR as a way to accomplish key business targets. AngloGold Ashanti: Analysis of CSR Strategy and Performance Page 4AngloGoldââ¬â¢s expressed qualities are firmly lined up with the 10 standards of the Ghana Business Code (Ghana Business Code, 2006). The second worth proclamation ââ¬Å"We treat each other with pride and respectâ⬠manages genu ineness and moral business and social practices and is lined up with the human rights, work and hostile to defilement standards of the Ghana Code.AngloGold announces its purpose to regard the Global Compact (and by expansion the Ghana Code) in its different explanations concerning the companyââ¬â¢s esteem for decent variety and its regard for nature. Two of the companyââ¬â¢s esteem proclamations are especially vital as they talk legitimately to the companyââ¬â¢s manageability technique. In esteem explanation 4, the organization announces ââ¬Å"We are responsible for our activities and attempt to convey on our commitmentsâ⬠. AngloGoldââ¬â¢s esteem proclamation 5 ââ¬Å"The people group and social orders in which we work will be in an ideal situation for AngloGold Ashanti having been thereâ⬠is an amazing explanation of duty by the organization to go past the extent of its legitimate and financial obligations into the higher domains of ââ¬Å"Carrollââ¬â¢s Pyramid of CSRâ⬠(Branco and Rodrigues, 2007:10). James Joyce and the National Commodity - Literature Essay Samples
In Anne McLintockââ¬â¢s Imperial Leather, she claims that women are the earth that is to be discovered, entered, named, and above all, owned. In the work of James Joyce, particularly Ulysses and Dubliners, he explores women who fit into McLintockââ¬â¢s description: women as commodities. It is not merely individual females who have been commodified, often sexually, but it is also Ireland. The very earth and motherland of Joyceââ¬â¢s characters, she too is subject to ownership and export. Possessing a distinct place in the colonial sphere, Ireland is portrayed by Joyce to be the national woman who is sold through her people and her material goods, whilst simultaneously partaking in the business of buying other nations. The very deepness with which people, object and nation are embedded into commodity culture raises questions of whether or not anything is truly untouched by consumerism in modern times, and ultimately, questions of authenticity. Joyce places women into the Marx ist class of commodity by portraying them in his novels as manifestations of popular culture that can be advertised, commodified, bought or sold. In Ulysses, the episode ââ¬ËCalypsoââ¬â¢ subtly presents advertising with its increased undertones of marketable sexuality, turning Leopold Bloomââ¬â¢s daughter Milly, into an object of popular culture. In the letter she writes home, she thanks them for her new bathing suit: ââ¬Ëeveryone says Iââ¬â¢m quite the belle in my new tamâ⬠¦I am getting on swimming in the photo business nowââ¬â¢. There is an implicit link between her improved aesthetic and her business success, particularly in an industry that resonates with emphasizing womenââ¬â¢s sexuality, pin-up girls, and even pornography. Milly is now aware of her bodyââ¬â¢s ability to improve ââ¬Ëbizââ¬â¢ (p. 63), as she is now ââ¬Ëvain: veryââ¬â¢ (p. 64). Standing in contrast to the prostitutes scattered across Ulysses, the most blatant embodiments of sexual commodities, Milly is a young girl, only ââ¬Ëfifteen yesterdayââ¬â¢ (p. 64). Commodification is thus insinuated to occur from a young age, and this notion is perpetuated through Gerty in the ââ¬ËNausicaaââ¬â¢ episode. Gerty is quantified in monetary terms as a ââ¬Ësterling good daughterâ⬠¦with a little heart worth its weight in goldââ¬â¢ (p. 339). She is constructed of the very product that plays such a key role in global trade, ââ¬Ëgoldââ¬â¢. Furthermore she wonders why ââ¬Ëyou couldnââ¬â¢t eat something poetical like violets or rosesââ¬â¢ (p. 337), revealing a desire to ingest a diet of romantic clichà ©s that only reiterates herself as a product of consumerism. Gerty becomes, after all, a sexual object for Bloom and the focus of his voyeuristic masturbation in public. She is aware of his gaze and seemingly embraces it, ââ¬Ëlifting her skirt but just enoughâ⬠¦to draw attention on the account of the gentleman opposite lookingâ⠬⢠(p. 340). The act is made only more perverse by the fact that Gerty is around the same age as Milly, indicating the blurred boundaries of acceptable female objectification. If the women and girls of Ireland can be commodified, it is then unsurprising that Ireland as a nation, especially considering its struggle against the British Empire, could be seen by Joyce as the ultimate case of a woman bought and sold. In the short story ââ¬ËTwo Gallantsââ¬â¢ from Dubliners, the feminized harp that Lenehan and Corley pass is a representation of Ireland. The harp, in the hands of her male harpist was ââ¬Ëheedless that her coverings had fallen about her knees, seemed wearily alike of the eyes of strangers and of her masterââ¬â¢s handsââ¬â¢ Ireland is unashamed, ââ¬Ëheedlessââ¬â¢ that she is naked, yet glances ââ¬Ëwearilyââ¬â¢ and those who listen to her music under the command of another. There is a tone of resignation surrounding her song. The harpist and harp , then, become allegorical for Ireland under the British Empire in the eyes of the world who look on as the two perform in hopes of money. These links are made more explicit through the choice of song ââ¬ËSilent, O Moyleââ¬â¢, whose artist Thomas Moore celebrated the personification of harp as Ireland in his other works (p. xx). The Irish nation is the motherland of Joyce and the inhabitants of his novels, presented as a mother in ââ¬ËEumeusââ¬â¢ of Ulysses by the political Parnell: ââ¬ËIreland, Parnell said, could not spare a single one of her sonsââ¬â¢ (p. 595). With the image of Ireland established as that of woman and a mother, Joyce explores Parnellââ¬â¢s statement by showing that while she ââ¬Ëcould not spare a single one of her sonsââ¬â¢; Ireland seemed able to spare many of her daughters.Joyce presents the daughters of the motherland as integral components of what assembles the Irish country. McLintock emphasizes that women are typically constructe d as the symbolic bearers of the nation, and appropriately in Joyceââ¬â¢s works, their commodification represents the objectification and slow disintegration of Ireland. Gerty is ââ¬Ëas fair a specimen of winsome Irish girlhood as once could wish to seeââ¬â¢ (p. 333), the epitome of an untouched, thriving young Ireland. However, through becoming the sexual target of Bloomââ¬â¢s public masturbation, Gerty and the pure vision she represents becomes corrupted and debased. Objectification, then, undermines the foundations of a nation. Gertyââ¬â¢s withered leg becomes a symptom of this, the disabling factor in an otherwise pure girlish specimen: ââ¬ËMr. Bloom watched her as she limped awayââ¬â¢ (p. 351). Her disability suggests a limping Ireland, declining under British rule, held back as its products and people are commodified. In Dubliners, the namesake of the short story ââ¬ËEvelineââ¬â¢ also represents the selling of Ireland and her people (specifically her women) as a way of weakening the country. Eveline chooses ââ¬Ëto leave her homeââ¬â¢ (p. 25), Dublin, in favour of following her lover Frank ââ¬Ëto be his wife and to live with him in Buenos Ayres where he had a home waiting for herââ¬â¢ (p. 27). The Irish home is rejected in favour of the far and exotic, ââ¬ËBuenos Ayresââ¬â¢, but there also exists undertones of a sinister industry that indicates a deep-rooted problem in the arena of human labour. Buenos Aires had an international reputation as a centre for the import of Irish females who would be subject to sexual exploitation. So while Evelineââ¬â¢s ultimate choice of rejecting Frank, ââ¬Ëher eyes gave him no sign of love or farewell or recognitionââ¬â¢ (p. 29), may indicate that she avoided becoming a victim of human trafficking, it remains that she, and Ireland, was vulnerable to the industry. Eveline represents all the Irish women who weakened, tarnished, and highlighted the struggle of their coun try by being victim of the white slave trade. However, Ulysses shows that it is not simply the trade of people that can build or break a nation, but also that of its material goods that equally present the land. In Ulysses, Joyce depicts this in a way that connects the sale of Irelandââ¬â¢s produce with her painful memories of the 1840s Great Famine, and subsequently to her place in the British Empire. As Stephen Dedalus walks the streets in ââ¬ËLestrygoniansââ¬â¢, he sees a ââ¬Ëdivided drove of branded cattleââ¬â¢ (p. 94) and thinks ââ¬Ëfor Liverpool probably. Roast beef for old England. They buy up all the juicy onesââ¬â¢ (p. 94). The cattle are ââ¬Ëbrandedââ¬â¢ by fire in a literal sense, but also figuratively as products from the brand of Ireland. Their explicit export to ââ¬Ëold Englandââ¬â¢ in Dedalusââ¬â¢ head resonates with a debated issue from the Famine: the continued export of Irish cattle to England, even after the potato blight had de stroyed the crops and left the Irish starving. The cattle trade thus exemplifies how commodities were crucial in making or breaking a nation ââ¬â in this case, it contributed to the struggles following the ruined food sources. The potato blight is alluded to more explicitly in a fight during ââ¬ËCirceââ¬â¢ between Bloom and the prostitute Zoe for a potato. ââ¬ËShe puts the potato greedily in her pocketââ¬â¢ (p. 450) and later, as Bloom asks for it back, he justifies his plea by claiming ââ¬Ëit is nothing, but still a relic of poor mammaââ¬â¢ (p. 518). The potato as a symbol of both the Irish motherland and the fight for food during the famine is reiterated here, as is the endearing sentiment behind ââ¬Ëpoor mammaââ¬â¢ Ireland. The commodities of Ireland have tired her out, and in the pitiful tone through ââ¬Ëpoor mammaââ¬â¢, all at once it is obvious that the potato has become a ââ¬Ërelicââ¬â¢, a symbol reflecting its declining country. The parallels of commodity to female sexuality are drawn again as Zoe reveals ââ¬Ëher bare thigh and unrolls the potato from the top of her stockingââ¬â¢ (p. 518). The physical proximity of the staple food to the apex of Zoeââ¬â¢s thighs, as well as the image of its slow withdrawal, is not unlike how the export of potatoes or any Irish good constitutes a loss to the woman, the motherland, from whence it came.Nevertheless, how authentic is Ireland in Joyceââ¬â¢s work as a victim of consumerism and the commodity trade? While the commodification of Ireland, her products and her people remains, Joyce undermines it through the demonstration of Irelandââ¬â¢s own imperialist role. Products from other British colonies are scattered throughout Ulysses as integral parts of the Irishââ¬â¢s daily lives. The Irish domestic necessity of ââ¬Ëteaââ¬â¢ is referred to over seventy five times in the course of the novel, a good imported from the East that also echoes a mastery of E nglish tradition. The pantry of the Bloomsââ¬â¢, surveyed in the episode ââ¬ËIthacaââ¬â¢, is full of imported goods from elsewhere in the empire. On the middle shelf alone one could find ââ¬Ësoluble coca, five ounces of Anne Lynchââ¬â¢s choice tea at 2/- per lbâ⬠¦.the best crystallised lump sugar, two onions, one the larger, Spanish, entire, the other, smaller, Irish, bisected with augmented surface and more redolentââ¬â¢ (p. 628). There is ââ¬Ëcocoaââ¬â¢ from Africa, ââ¬Ëteaââ¬â¢ from the East, and ââ¬Ëcrystallised sugarââ¬â¢ from the Carribean, all national slaves and commodities of the British Empire. Even in its nationalist struggle, Joyce portrays Ireland playing the imperialist game, and consequently is not only victim, but also conqueror alongside the British by nourishing the empire through economic means. In the same way that the commodification of Ireland hinders her, the same dilemma for other colonies builds her up again. The oni ons demonstrate the difference between independence and colonialisation, with the Spanish onion ââ¬Ëentireââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëlargerââ¬â¢, in contrast to a ââ¬Ëbisectedââ¬â¢ Irish onion with an ââ¬Ëaugmented surfaceââ¬â¢, figuratively the surface of the country augmented under foreign power. Joyce juxtaposes the feeble, commodified Ireland with the abundance and richness of the imported goods, but simultaneously highlights that while being sold is negative in Ireland herself, she is actually built through commodities bought from other subjugated nations. Joyce has thus shown commodities to be embedded within themselves. In ââ¬ËNausicaaââ¬â¢, Bloom objectifies Gerty sexually, and simultaneously himself as he imagines his image: he is the ââ¬Ëprize mystery man on the beachââ¬â¢ (p. 358), with eyes that could ââ¬Ëread her very soulââ¬â¢ (p. 342). Bloom constructs an archetypal heartthrob version of himself as imagined through the eyes of Gerty. Ther e are several levels of objectification at play here, through packaging both Gerty and Bloom into ideal figures of romance, but also in the way Bloom imagines this. The narrative of ââ¬ËNausicaaââ¬â¢, easily confused with that of popular literary ââ¬Ësmutââ¬â¢, builds on romantic and poetic clichà ©s: ââ¬Ëthe summer evening had begun to fold the world in its mysterious embraceââ¬â¢ (p. 331). However, this is narrated through what Bloom believes Gerty to perceive, therefore revealing that even Bloomââ¬â¢s mind and view is filtered through popular culture. All this is further embedded within an episode that can be referred to as ââ¬ËNausicaaââ¬â¢, taken from a pre-existing literary commodity, Homerââ¬â¢s The Odyssey and placed into Ulysses, Joyceââ¬â¢s work that alludes to it. Ulysses is then aware of itself as literary commodity, and becomes part of a commodity cycle that is also evident in Joyceââ¬â¢s work. Ireland is a commodified nation built f rom the commodities of others, never truly a victim because it benefits from the same predicament it suffers from. As ââ¬ËNausicaaââ¬â¢ revealed, even the narratives of Joyceââ¬â¢s work can be questioned as being part of a consumer culture cycle, one that blurs the boundaries of whether the stories and perceptions are real or unreal. Joyce ultimately intimates that consumer and commodity culture are now so embedded in modern nations and modern lives that commodity has eroded authenticity.

New SAT Math Polygons Video
Do you know your SAT polygons? A quick little formula that will make your life a lot easier in case you come across an SAT problem that asks about polygons is the following: Total degree measures of a polygon: 180(n ââ¬â 2), where n = # of sides of the polygon Say, you have to find the total degree measure of an octagon (thatââ¬â¢s the shape of a stop sign). But no need to stop here! We can just plug in ââ¬Ë8ââ¬â¢ for n and we get: 180(8 ââ¬â 2) = 180(6) = 1080 Another helpful formula to know is the degree measure of any one side of a congruent polygon. A congruent polygon has equal sides, and therefore equal angles. All you have to do is to take the original formula and divide by ââ¬Ënââ¬â¢. This makes sense because you are taking the total degree measure and finding out the measure for any one side. So thatââ¬â¢s why we divide the total degrees by the number of sides: [180(n ââ¬â 2)]/n Returning to n = 8, letââ¬â¢s assume the octagon is congruent. What is the measure of any of its sides? 180(6) = 1080/n = 1080/8 = 160 Now youââ¬â¢ve learned two useful formulas dealing with polygons! Degree measure of sides in a congruent polygon: [(n ââ¬â 2)180]/n

Life Span Perspective Paper - 711 Words
Life Spain Perspective Paper Teresa Haumschild PSY/375 August 12, 2013 Kay Rubin, MA Life Spain Perspective Paper When it comes to life span development you have to understand what it is and where it comes from or even how it got its name. As it was said by Boyd and Bee that life span development is the name that psychologists have given to the physical and cognitive changes that occur throughout a personââ¬â¢s life (Boyd amp; Bee, 2009). So I will be first explaining the life span of development, along with summarizing two different theories of life span development, and then the last one is just explaining how heredity and the environment interact to produce individual difference in the development. So what is life spanâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Then take both theories but Piaget and Fred they both seem to play a role of nature and nurture in the development stage too. Hereditary along with environment is a personality development that is a heated debated in the area for several of years. So when it comes to nature versus nurture the personal experience that a person goes through is basically determining what is causing the individual the differences in their physical and behavioral traits as well. Then the frequent personality that is of the heritable trait that has been researched just in twins along with adoptions as well.
